Astronomik CLS CCD Filter

The Astronomik CLS (City Light Suppression) CCD EOS Clip is a great filter against light pollution in a clip design for Canon EOS DSLRs. It blocks emissions of artificial light sources like streetlights and airglow. It enhances the contrast between our “desired” objects and the background. 92% transmission at 486nm (H-beta), 92% transmission at 496nm (OIII), […]

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Seriously, I’m finished with the kit lenses. They are very good for daylight photography. But in the night they come to their limits quickly. At the moment these 3 lenses I’m using for night photography: Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L Hope for some nice widefield shots 😀 […]

Illuminator Problem

The Skyatcher Star Adventurer Polar Scope illuminator unfortunatley is not usable while the L-bracket is mounted. To use it with the attached L-bracket, I customized a 25mm PVC-tube as adapter for the illuminator. Hope it works as desired 😀 BTW: I was inspired by this forum post: http://www.astrotreff.de/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=174928

Canon EF 200mm f/2.8L

Yeahh! I got one with the red ring 😀 The 75-300mm which I used until now is a very good lense compared to its price, but I want more light with a larger aperture at 200mm. And the low price is incredible for a L-lense! Hope for some clear nights!!! Focal length 200mm Apeerture f/2.8 no IS (no […]

Canon EF 100mm f/2.8

Star Adventurer Star Tracker

Here is it. The Skywatcher Star Adventurer. A small equatorial, RA-motorized star tracker (no DEC motor) with a payload capacity of 5 kg and it comes with some functions for time lapses (like slight panning during shooting). But at the moment I’m more interested in long exposure imaging 😀 In my first tests I could […]

Samyang 8mm f3.5

Finally I got my fisheye lens 🙂 The reviews are mostly very good, according the price. Hope I can shot Milkyway this night… the weather forecast predicts clear sky for 2 hours at midnight  🙂 Focal length 8mm Aperture f/3.5 No electronic connectors, all settings manual…

Canon EOS 100D

I was looking for an inexpensive and leightweight DSLR for beginners and I found the Canon EOS 100D to be the best choice. The body weight’s only 407 g. A basic 18-55 mm lens completes the package. So I can use it at 18 mm for wide angle shots and make my first experiences with the night sky… […]

Canon IXUS

OK, as I thought, the Canon IXUS 160 on a Baader Microstage II is not the best combination. It’s very hard to find the focus with the IXUS. Regardless, the Baader Microstage II is really a great tool!
